Nikki Lane Denim and Diamond Tour at Last Concert Cafe
|
|
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
April 14, 2023 - I remember as I was going through the images I took of Nikki Lane in October wondering when she would return again? Thankfully I did have to wait too long to find out, coming upon a Spring Tour starting back at Last Concert Cafe in April! Still a ways out I marked the date. Now we’ll find out the answer to “Will she let me back in?”. Nikki was also one of 3 artists I’d hoped to photograph in April, thankfully I got 2 of the 3. You know I’m a fan of this young lady and it seems others are taking notice as well, saw Ms Nikki is in a Flogging Molly video and she’ll be traveling with Chris Stapleton in October and possibly a chance for a 3rd Nikki Lane show as they come through Houston in October? (Lindsey Stirling(5), Blue October(4), Nikki Lane(3?) a boy can dream. 10 years getting to do this that’s pretty cool too!

Blue October - Spinning The Truth Around @ 713 Music Hall

|
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
April 08, 2023 - So Ive been fortunate to photograph several artist & bands multiple times, some more than others. Blue October is one of those bands Ive had the pleasure to photograph 4 times now, with the first 2 shows being allowed full show coverage! No music photographer is going to pass up an opportunity to capture it all! Blue October was wrapping up a 70 show tour of Spinning The Truth Around with two sold out hometown shows at 713 Music Hall! This was also my first time at 713, very nice venue and nice staff too. There was a bit of minor confusion initially as the Beatnik Bandits took the stage, but was resolved before Blue October took over the party!

2023 Begins with Betty Who at House of Blues
|
|
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
March 4, 2023 - 2023 got off to a slow start, yet this marks 10 years of getting to do concert photography, TYL! With the Live Nation Portal I applied for 4 various artists, one I knew would be a No, but you never Know unless you ask? But I felt better about the other 2, having photographed one band before. How ever I recently learned I might have been applying too early? And having heard nothing from the others, began thinking I was gonna go 0 for 4! I want to thank Betty Who for being the first artist to allow me to begin my 10th year. Realizing I’m recognizing fewer artists coming to town, I had heard of Betty Who prior, having come upon one song on Instagram. Usually accompanying a little one on the screen. I even have it on my phone, but that was my extent into this young lady. But if you’re one of my Many Instagram followers (4), then you know I request a variety of artists.

Tauren Wells Joy in the Morning Tour at Smart Financial Centre
|
|
Phots & Words by Richard Roesler
October 27, 2022 - I received a message inquiring if I’d like to interview or photograph Houston native and Christian artist Tauren Wells who was stopping by Smart Financial Centre on his Joy in the Morning Tour. After replying my interview skills are along the lines of “Do you like toast?” I indicated I would be interested in photos, all though I wasn’t sure I’d hear back. You don’t sometimes, but it was an opportunity to photograph another Christian artist, my second and finally get to check out SFC. There is some amazing music in the Christian artist category, they seek to reach a diverse group of musical tastes, same as main stream artist and some like Amy Grant, Lauren Daigle and others have cross over fans.

Nikki Lane Denim & Diamonds Tour
|
|
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
October 20, 2022 - So I finally got to catch a young lady I’ve been wanting to cover for a while now, Nikki Lane! I became aware of her through social media of course, the variety of images of Ms Nikki intrigued me, yet I chose to not listen to any of her music prior to finally getting the opportunity to see her. Or as it is with me point glass at them, I’ve never asked, but I assume they reflect back as artist can always find them. Eye contact yes, although a couple times, as if she wasn’t sure about it? Any music photographer, if allowed will shoot the entire show given the opportunity you can get some interesting images. Some you dig out of the lights of wrong color and they become B&Ws, which I like anyway. And sometimes you get a stellar lighting opportunity and get a shot, even if by pure chance that you keep looking at.

Peter McPoland Opened for twenty øne piløts

Picures & Words by Richard Roesler
September 14, 2022 - Houston's own. OK the Woodlands own Peter McPoland is spending the back half of 2022 opening for twenty øne piløts! Not bad for the "could not have bee too long ago high school graduate"? Peter seems to have appeared in force in 2018. Although not origianally from Texas Peter has been in town since grade school, while I dont know when he began the club circuit, if he even did, it wasnt long. However Houston and the surronding areas offer plenty of venues to hone your craft, Peter seems to have fast tracked it. Im not saying didn't put in the effort in any way, he's just moving it along! While waiting to head down to the main floor, one of the approved photographers waiting mentioned being a Freshman. I said "Please tell me in collage?! Nope! Geez I'M old!

Photos & Words by Richard Roesler - (09/28 I apologize for the delay in posting up due to my mothers passing)
September 14, 2022 - I got to take a break from an ongoing family issue and catch up with Tyler and Josh for The Icy Tour at the Toyota Center. The snow in a South Texas September was a nice break and the show was amazing! This is one of those tours that as a photographer you wish you could photograph the entire show! Or even better cover a couple shows! We got shuttled to stage right so the crew could set up a landing area for Tyler to fling himself off the stage, who knows maybe he just landed on his feet? Only to pop back up on stage and continue on, I know I wasn't the only one glad to be there, the young ladies I included got in line on Friday for the Wednesday's show, thats cool!

Jeff "Skunk" Baxter Goes Rockin at Troubadour
|
August 2, 2022---You know the old cliche about how older folks just sit around in their rocking chairs? Well, that may be partially true. Notice I said "partially', and that is clearly true in the case of Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. Yes, he does perform, sitting in an ergonomic rocking chair but the rocking he does is not mearly in the kinetic sense. The 73 year-old former member of Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers is a rock star in every sense of the word and has earned an impressive array of awards for his skillfull guitar work including 2 Grammys and a place in the 2016 NAM TEC Hall of Fame. If that isn't enough, his vast knowledge of ballistics and engineering, earned him a seat in our nation's defense think tank. Here at AAMN, we have an affinity for dichomatous musicians. That's why we LOVE Jeff "Skunk" Baxter!

Gooding: Reading, Writing and Rhythma-tic
|
August 2, 2022---
If there’s one thing we like here at AAMN, it’s the hard-working, good-looking band, struggling to grab the brass ring of fame. In our eyes, the band Gooding epitomizes these traits, and so much more. We got to taste a sampling of these rock-n-roll warriors as they opened for the Jeff “Skunk” Baxter show at the Troubadour. Here’s what we saw and heard in those thirty minutes, and thereafter. |

Paso Gets a "Slow Ride" from Foghat
|
July 27, 2022---
We've all caught ourselves mumbling those hypnotic words; " slow ride, take it easy...slow ride, take it easy"---and then mouthing those raucous guitar riffs, indelibly etched in our memory from years past. Foghat: the quintessential quartet epitomizing the 70's era of sex, drugs and rock-n-roll, put on a show last night that was anything BUT a slow ride. The 90-minute parade of tunes they performed on the Frontier stage at the California Mid State Fair in Paso Robles, seemed like just a tease...and a good one at that!

Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
June 10, 2022 - Got to catch the MGK-22 Mainstream Sellout Tour at the Toyota Center, but almost didn’t! So the day of the concert I had been involved in a family event that has been ongoing for a while. So I haven’t been requesting too many shows as I don’t like to miss a show I’ve been approved for and it had happened in 22 once already. I had put in for the Machine Gun Kelly show a couple months ago, as the “portal” does allow you to request a show months out. That evening as I was sitting at a long, long, long, light about 6:45, decided to check emails and there was the approval! Fortunately I wasn’t too far from my cameras, wasn’t sure about the batteries though? Thankfully they were still ready!

Wolf Alice at House of Blues
|
|
April 16, 2022 - Finally kicked 2022 concert season off with Wolf Alice, great show! So I got to photograph Wolf Alice back in 2015 at Buzzfest 34 I enjoyed the music, what I got to hear. First you have to take your cameras back to the guard shack and then with a festival you’re usually waiting at the next stage. But looking at the images 7 years apart is interesting as it was a bit more hammer down from the start of this years show! And to not have to hurry off, there was some confusion as we were told we could shoot through out the venue after our first 3. I did take some from back past sound, but seemed like I was getting the evil eye from Ms Ellie? It was not a blatant disregard of the rules. Thanks to Ms Ellie and the boys I got to catch up with them again and take a couple of images too.

Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
November 4, 2021 - I have tried twice previously to get an opportunity to photograph Ms Daigle once here in Houston & another at a Christian Music Festival in San Antonio. Ive been a fan of hers since the first song I heard of hers, she is an extremely talented and likable young lady! Ive tried repeatedly to get credentials for various Christian artist, yet was never successful. I was surprised when I did and a bit nervous still, only my 3rd show to photograph since the music returned. And Ms Lauren is very well known a couple rusty mistakes, but I got some cool images! And one that’s an unusual angle but I like the sparkle in her eyes.

Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
October 30, 2021 - So I’ve gotten to photograph 3 artist in 2021, it’s been amazing to feel the rush of power as the lights go down, the expectation. Now as I’m finally sitting down to put pen to paper, well now it’s finger to keyboard. First show I had a bit of nerves, it had been 19 months or 545 days, but Blue October I’ve been allowed to photograph 2 times previously and the entire show both times! That’s not regular for most bands, nor was I expecting it post-covid. It was a bit surreal coming up on Bayou Music Center for the first time since 2019, I had planned on eating at Hard Rock Cafe. You can tell I missed a memo somewhere, but there were no restaurants of any kind. I guess it really hasn’t been that long since the music returned.

Did I Joke My Way Into Eric Clapton?

|
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
September 17, 2021 - So did I? I don't know, but here are the facts as I know them. On September 7th at 1:43 PM I submitted for an Eric Clapton credential. At 3:15 September 7th I was Denied! So Sunday morning before church I posted up the picture of Jimmie Vaughan with the captions listed in the last image. Joking about how I was turned down almost immediately! But figured I had tried and that all I can do, then Monday evening at 6:33 I find out I was approved! Almost a week after I was denied, I don’t know who changed their mind? Thank You for the opportunity to take some images of Jimmie & Eric and (finally after 19 months or 545 days , but who’s counting), once again experience the energy that is released when the light go down and the crowd goes up! Man I missed Live Music!

Words & Pictures by Richard Roesler
August 13, 2021 - So I’ve decided to add a "My Favorite’s" album, although it August already I am finally trying to get some shows lined up for who ever might be left, visiting AAMN since Covid changed the world as we knew it! I just don’t want Dusty Hill’s passing to be the only thing out here, that loss is still to fresh. So I'm going to be updating this album for a bit, so check back! I’m going to start it off with the first concert I ever photographed ZZ Top, I wasn’t a credentialed photographer, more a “Clandestine One”. My beautiful & intelligent girlfriend at the time Nurse GoodBody, suggested we should take my camera to the show. Which she snuck in wearing maternity clothes, we also did this for Stevie Ray Vaughan as well! For some reason I took slide film, GoodBody & I weren’t rich and I probably figured next time, which sadly there never was. I’ve made my first credential request for 2021, we’ll see what happens?

Then I put in for them a couple years ago and just as I was pulling into the venue parking lot, I had a issue arise and had to miss the show. So on concert nights it gets close to a 22-hour day! Couple hours sleep and then back to work, no the un-fun job. Then add both shoulders deciding to all of a sudden quit shouldering and finally having to get the rear differential back under my 1993 Bronco and its March 14th and your trying to figure out what happened?

However I will continue my sort as the day progresses, apparenty there is some football game on this evening, Puppy Bowl or something?

Gin Blossoms
|
|
December 29, 2018 Augora Hills, Ca—-written by Gina Sigman
Alt rock fans packed into the elegant Canyon Club for an evening with the Gin Blossoms. Lead singer Robin Wilson proved he can still croon 90’s style and then some, never missing a note on songs like Follow You Down. Jesse Valenzuela was as impressive on guitar as he was delivering his sweetly familiar harmonies. The rest of the band, consisting of Bill Leen, and “the Scotts”: Johnson and Hessel, added the essentials needed to complete the whole package. The band from Tempe Arizona that began in the late 80’s has uh...to use an over-trite pun...blossomed into becoming an iconic marker of the Alt Rock movement of the 90’s and beyond.

This was my 3rd time to be allowed to enjoy the show and I have to tell you this group frickin rocked the House of Blues! Covering 23 songs, a couple that havent been heard since the 90's!

Tyler Bryant at the House of Blues
|
|
Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
September 21, 2018 - I discovered Tyler Bryant in the 2009 Rock-U-Mentry, Rock Prophecies, a movie about Rock Photographer Robert Knight. You may not know the name, but believe me you’ve seen his work! In the movie he tells of how Stevie Ray Vaughan, in a somewhat foretelling of the future, tells Robert “If anything ever happens to me, you’ll know me when you see me”. Robert came to discover Tyler, playing around his home in Honey Grove, Texas and believed the talented young man might just be blessed with a little bit of SRV! Please don’t misunderstand this young man is talented and has worked at his skill. But when a photographer who’s met and photographed Stevie compares you to him that’s not too shabby!

September 14, 2018 - I have to thank all my teachers at Harvard, because had it not been for them I might have just passed over the story, yes of course I noticed the pretty girl with the killer legs in the front seat of the car & even the two guys behind her. But had it not been for for those 4 years at Harvard, were those fine teachers helped me to learn to read letters, I might have missed the part that read "blues"! which of course peaked my interest and allowed me to arrive at the Ally Venable, be it late as usual, party!

Journey at The Toyota Center

Photos & Words by Richard Roesler
September 1, 2018 - Journey stopped by the Toyota Center making the rounds with Def Leppard, I had the pleasure of covering the boys a couple years ago at the Woodlands Pavilion and it was a great show. This was my first arena coverage for them and it was pretty cool! My biggest issue was when you shoot at the Toyota Center its from the sound boards or front of house, which I know, yet still managed to forget my stool to stand on which aids in getting over the heads of the fans between you and the band.

September 1, 2018 - Def Leppard made their way to Houston to rock the hometown crowd on the Pour Some Sugar On Me Tour. With the weather outside reflecting the storm inside of guitars, drums and kicking Rock and Roll to what appeared to be a sold out crowd? A safe bet, since there were no empty seats to be seen and there was a second show scheduled on the upcoming Labor Day Monday to properly bring the summer season (in other states, except Texas, still summer!) to a close! As with so many other artist and bands it was great to see some second and possibly 3rd generation rockers in the crowd!

Jackie Bristow
|
|
July 14, 2018: Buellton, CA---Singer/songwriter Jackie Bristow was the headlining performer last night at the Standing Sun Winery. Singer/songwriter Paula Punch was the opener for the show.Paula’s set included her very own folk-style songs which have a thoughtful and reflective styling. Jackie was joined on stage by Santa Ynez’s very own Carole Ann Colone along with guitarist Mark Punch. Her style ranges from rock and blues to American folk. By the end of the evening, the trio had everyone migrating to the front of the stage for dancing and musical revelry. Jackie , Paula and Mark are all from Australia. Jackie currently lives in Tennessee where she is pursuing her music career.

Boom Forrest
|
|
July 7, 2018 Buellton, CA---Patrons of the Standing Sun Winery swayed and imbibed to a sundry assortment of sounds by Boom Forest, a band who hails from Wisconsin. Front man John Paul admits that they fit no particular genre . Their tunes tickle the soul and the intellect with songs like Silver Hair with its thoughtfully sensitive lyrics to the spiritually-twisted Holy Ghost. With a playful mix of man vs. machine harmonies and tight 3 instrument back-up, Boom Forest carves a deep notch in the stone tablet of unique and memorable bands. So, if you missed this intimate little pit stop last night, maybe you can catch them on the road. They are currently on a nation-wide tour, opening for The Black Crows promoting their latest CD, Post Knight Errant.---Words by Gina Sigman

Lindsey Stirling at The Woodlands Pavilion

Photos by Richard Roesler
August 25, 2018/September - For those of you that may not know, I’m a Stirlingite! A big, ugly, mustached, tattooed, Harley Shovelhead riding Stirlingite. Although I discovered this talented young lady, by accident on a photography site, fortunately it was right before her first tour would bring her to Houston! I wasn’t doing the AAMN thing yet, but had photographed some concert working for Bikernet.com and was able to get approved through her management that way. And I am currently 5 for 5 on approvals for Ms Lindsey’s shows! I’m in no way bragging, as there are better photographers than myself in Houston.

August 11, 2018 - Shinedown came to the Lone Star state crossing the USA with Like A Storm and Godsmack which is an amazing show, as you would expect. However one incident got me to thinking so I want to go a bit off topic, like I’m EVER on topic! the image of Brent shaking hands, he stopped and shook every photographers hand, 10 of us in the “Pit Monkey” enclosure. That was a first for me, there are a lot of bands and artist that interact with the photographers, if not directly, like @cheaptrickrick and @jasonhook_5fdp who are guitar pick assassins, there was @zoltanbathory & @5fdpchriskael hamming it up for the camera. Some artist acknowledge us with killer poses right in front of the camera, like @zakkwyldebls and @c_c_deville or like my hoping to go 5 for 5 Ms @lindseystirling who always makes eye contact or at least eye to lens contact. I’m pretty sure Ms Lindsey is wondering how I keep getting in to her shows though!

August 11, 2018 - I do not ever check out an artist or bands music before a show if I’ve never heard of them, as I want that first live experience to be my weathervane of approval. Some bands and artist are just better with the music that comes out of the studio! Maybe they’re burnt out from too much touring, maybe they do not even like touring, but their record label said you gotta! Or, Maybe, just Maybe, they just really love hearing themselves sing and wanted a gold record?

August 4, 2018 - Imagine Dragons made their way to the Dome City, entertaining fans on the sold out Evolve Tour. Taking the stage and kicking off the show with Radioactive, I didn’t notice anything unusual primarily focusing on my Pit Monkey duties of staring through the viewfinder. However upon the songs completion Dan Reynolds came out to the front of the stage and began to talk, that’s when you noticed it! This young man was sick and had no voice, he addressed the crowd stating in their entire career as a band they had only cancelled one show and that was their first year. He apologized, pondering with the crowd on what to do, as he knew he couldn’t give them the show they came to see?

August 4, 2018 - I had the privilege to photograph Imagine Dragons recently; being it was a Sunday show I arrived earlier that usual due to lees traffic across town, the show however was sold out! I inquired as to who the opening act was, but the person I asked didn’t know much more that “ a 14 year old young lady”. Interesting I thought, but got distracted and didn’t ponder on it anymore. Upon being escorted out to the pit, I notice Grace on the drum and her full name on the back wall of the stage, which is laid out with a large area rug with a flower border and flowers going up the mic stand. Hum Grace VanderWaal, still not registering, remember I don’t own a TV and there are just so many artist about these days. You cant always stay informed, no matter how hard you might try.

The Kingston Trio
|
|
June16, 2019, San Luis Obispo, CA—The nostalgic Fremont theater was the setting for an evening with 50’s/60’s folk group, the Kingston Trio. The lovely and talented singer/songwriter, Olivia Reed opened for the show, playing a 30 minute set with her feathery vocals framing thoughtfully written lyrics. Enter the Kingston Trio onto the stage, met by a round of applause to do what they do best: three-part harmonies backed up by banjo and guitar. It was good old American folk and pop music with the feel of a family living room sing-along. Although the original members are no longer with them, current members Tim Gorlangton, Mike Marvin and Josh Reynolds keep the family legacy going. Josh is original member Nick Reynold’s son while Mike is Josh’s cousin and Tim is Mike’s lifelong friend. On stand-up bass, was band’s trusty bassist, Paul Gabrielson. The band pulled out many of their numerous hits, prompting sing-alongs from the audience and plenty of toe tapping and hand clapping. Among some their hit songs played were “Scotch and Soda”, “Worried Man”, “This Land”, “Where Have all the Flowers Gone”, and “Tom Dooley”. The trio is currently touring across the USA. Go see them at a theater near you!----Words by Gina Sigman

June 3, 2018 - I got to catch Cheap Trick at the Woodlands Pavilion and they circled the globe with Poison on the Nothin’ But A Good Time tour! Taking the stage with 3 of the of the 4 original member’s Robin, Rick and Tom, still out there kicking ass! And it’s my understanding that although he no longer tour with the guys, drummer Bun E, Carlos is still involved with the Cheap Trick machine. However taking his place on the drums for a few years now has been Daxx Nielsen, Rick’s son and touring this year is also Robin Zander Jr on rhythm guitar. Is this possibly the start of Cheap Trick Version 2.0?

June 8. 2018 - The boys and lady of Pop Evil braved the "It's Only June" Texas Heat to kick off the festivities along with Cheap Trick and Poison on the Nothin' But A Good Time tour! Although as photographers we were limited to our relative sides of the stage due to a stage thrust, it did allow for all the artist to engage the audience more. It was enjoyable to catch PE's new drummer Ms Hayley Cramer doing her thing! And although Leigh Kakaty didn’t really engage those of us pointing cameras at him, he did do his job, along with the rest of Pop Evil creating new fans! On their last song, not only did Leigh use the thrust, he climbed down into the crowd, stopping to take pictures with the eager new fans, while continuing the song. Heck he made it all the way out to the lawn, that shows the crowd you appreciate them being there!

Is the new fans that are discovering these artist, be it Todd and his big head or some other artist, There awas a father/son team up on the rail and after my 3 songs I saw a couple other new fans, Todd was doing his thing on the guitar and the Monsters were in rare form! May 08, 2018 - As I emerged from the underground parking behind the Revention Music Center, a line of Ghost fans wrapped entirely around the building greeted me. Not a totally uncommon site for a music venue, however to say that this crowd was unique would be an understatement! If you’ve ever read my ramblings on other artists and bands, then you know I do not claim to know a lot about every music genre. Of course I had heard of Ghost and seen some killer images from their shows, but that was about the extent of it. I like to experience the event as it unfolds in front of my camera and then as part of the crowd.

Brandy Clark
|
|
May 2, 2018 Solvang, CA—Music fans and patrons alike, cuddled up under blankets and hoodies for an evening outdoors at the Solvang Festival Theater to enjoy a benefit concert featuring the music talents of Brandy Clark. Brandy is both a singer and songwriter and showed her audience last night that she does both equally well. Her credits include several Grammy and CMA nominations. She has also forged her mark on a plethora of songsters including Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes, Sheryl Crow, Gretchen Wilson and Miranda Lambert. Though a west coast girl from Washington state, Clark writes and sings like a country girl with the music style of stone-washed, love-jilted, hash-slingin’ good-hearted woman. With songs such as “Big Day in a Small Town” and “The Day She Got Divorced” she paints vivid images of such women and characters that are part of every day life. Her voice is hot and smoky, with a cool and collected quality that pairs up with her songs like a good beer and a bowl of red peanuts. The audience cheered persistently after her final song, bringing Clark back on stage for an encore, singing a lovely impromptu of Linda Ronstadt’s “Blue Bayou”. Proceeds from her concert will benefit the Solvang Festival Theater. ——by Gina Sigman

Carlene Carter
|
|
March20th-2018—-Carlene Carter, daughter of the late June Carter Cash and stepdaughter to the legendary Johnny Cash, gave a farewell performance for her fellow Santa Ynez neighbors at the Standing Sun Winery. With seats filled and only a few feet of standing room between them, well-wishers and fans packed in to the rustic venue to hear her toe-tapping tunes and reminiscent stories of life growing up in the Carter-Cash family. Her husband, actor Joe Breen, opened the show with the singing of the National Anthem and accompanied her on several songs. Carlene is the grandmother of seven grandchildren who all live in the Nashville area and says she is moving to be close to them. Throughout the concert, she showed off her musical prowess, demonstrating the famous “Carter Scratch” technique on the guitar and finished off the performance plucking the strings and bringin’ down the house with the Carter Family heirloom, “Wildwood Flower”. After the show, she graciously chatted, hugged, signed autographs and posed for pictures with friends and fans. Her latest cd, a tribute to her grandmother, Maybelle Carter and the entire Carter family legacy is available at www.carlenecarter.net and on Amazon.

January 15, 2018 - Zakk Wylde and the boys of Black Label Society brought their heavy metal, kick ass, shred your face music to the House of Blues this past Monday night on the January 15th. The reason I mention the date is two-fold, that morning started off with coffee in hand as always. Making my way to the digital device sitting on the desk next to the cameras, that were patiently waiting, packed and ready to go! Opening one of the news links I was hit with a headline that I certainly hoped was incorrect, that made reference to the passing of Cranberries lead singer Dolores O’Riodan. Sadly with each new link I opened the fact was repeated, not the way to start the New Year.

Kenny Loggins
|
|
November 30, 2017, Pasadena, Ca.——Singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins, delivered a rousing 90 minute performance to a standing-room-only audience at The Rose, a soulfully elegant venue. Loggins’ fans ate the honey as he prefaced the singing of Pooh’s Corner with an anecdote about its origin. His songs started out mellow, progressing into a grinding acoustical of “This Is It”. At this point, arms where beginning to sway and fans were singing along. Aside from his talent, Loggins KNOWS how to draw his audience in! Even patrons noshing on fare from the restaurant put down their forks and swallowed their bites so they could participate in his sing-along with Celebrate Me Home. There were so many hits including those he teamed up with Michael McDonald for but there just wasn’t enough time in a 90 minute set to cover them all. Nevertheless, nothing was lost. The 69 year old singer’s falsetto voice did not fail. He belted out Danger Zone, shredding those notes like a guy half his age! One could feel the energy reach a crescendo as the time approached for the encore. Stage lights flashed and twinkled. Loggins zipped back on stage with the stealth of a tiger. The audience cheered. Suddenly, it was 1984 all over again. The opening riffs of Foot Loose brought the entire house to its feet, dancing and singing along. Nimble in voice, body and spirit, Kenny Loggins brought it home or...shall we say, to Pasadena? Although the concert is over, the story doesn’t end here. Loggins has recently release a children’s book entitled, “Footloose”, available where books are sold.

August 18, 2017 Santa Ynez, Ca---Vivacious country star Chris Janson took the stage at the Chumash casino for an evening of good-time country rockin' and rapping. The 31 y/o singer from Montana, nimbly skipped onto the stage performing "Redneck Life", getting audience members out of their chairs and dancing. Seats emptied as fans filled the isles and pranced to the front of the stage to participate in Janson's party-like atmosphere. Wearing a simple camo cap, jeans and a white t-shirt, Chris showed his fans what true showmanship was, giving it everything he's got. A highlight of the show was when it came time for a little solo. Janson brought his youngest son, Jesse onto the stage and coaxed the little guy to do some harmonica blowing. The two went back and forth in a playful exchange, drawing applause and "aaawwws" from the audience. Santa Ynez is Chris' 6th stop on his 12 city California tour, promoting his top-20 single hit "Fix a Drink."

It's no surprise that the band's plethora of hits including Drive, The Warmth, and Stellar, have produced a generation of "megalomaniacs" who love their music. The band is currently on world tour, promoting their 8th album, entitled, Incubus 8.

Metallica WorldWired Tour

Photos and words by Richard Roesler (**All the full stage images were shot with a camera phone, my intent was to only show the size of the endever it takes each night of the WorldWired Tour**)
Metallica Made their way to Texas on The WorldWired Tour. Along with special guests Avegened Sevenfold and Volbeat and while it has been a long while since the boys in Metallica graced us with a visit. Id say the absence was worth the wait, as would those in attendance from Houston and surrounding areas, like California would agree. That right there were 2 young men across from me, in the “Snake Pit” that made the trek from the west coast! For those that weren’t able to attend the snake pit was an area inside a looped walkway that came off the main stage and packed in the middle were a select group of concert goers, that I’m sure paid upwards of $20.00 easy to partake of the evening’s excitement just a bit closer then the rest.

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers strolled into town on the 40th Anniversary tour and while some of the Heartbreakers may have changed the music is still the same…excellent! While I cannot boast myself to being a 40-year fan, I’m good for 38 or 39 years easy! And unless I’m recalling some hallucinogenic induce memory (not that I’ve ever done that type of thing) I know Top Petty played Houston on New Years Eve one year in the eighties as I attended with a beautiful red-haired lady and I really want to say he did it two years in a row? However the Google was not able to neither confirm nor deny this information.

May 5, 2017 Santa Ynez, CA——-Famed stoner comedy duo Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong performed at Chumash Casino. Tommy’s blonde bombshell wife, Shelby, opened for the show. Cheech and Chong’s first album, Cheech and Chong, which came out in 1971, made it to #28 on the US charts. From there, the cannabis-loving pair went on to produce several more albums and appear in several movies through out the 70’s and 80’s. The iconic hippy twosome are far from letting their career go “up in smoke” as they continue to make appearances and perform across the US.

Ok so it's time to come clean and lay down the facts! First, I don't own a TV, second I rarely ever listen to the radio. I know what you're thinking, "Well Richard how in the world do you decide on the musical acts you'd like to photograph?" Sometimes I use a program I've developed, in conjunction with NASA, NSA and the SPCA that inputs, thousands of variables, such as the artist height in relationship to the stage height, types of strings he or she uses on their guitars, the last place they had chips and salsa and their reviews of said chips and salsa, etc. etc.

Sept 29, 2016: Santa Ynez, CA.: The Chumash Casino theater became a virtual funk fest as Morris Day and the Time hit the stage for an evening of nostalgia, dancing and flirty fun. The 58 year-old R&B whiz started out in the 80's playing in a band with the late Prince. He later went on to play the antagonist to Prince in Purple Rain. His energetic 90 minute show kept the audience on their feet and twice drew ladies and guys to the stage to dance and strutt: proof that age has nothing to do with "the time". He is best known for "The Bird" and "Jungle Love" which capped off the evenings' performance.

Freedom Over Texas Festival
For 30 years the City of Houston, along with its sponsors have been putting on the Freedom Over Texas Festival at Eleanor Tinsley Park to celebrate our nations freedom! With 50,000 plus gathered on the edge of downtown to take in the music (on multiple stages) exhibits, food and fun. There is always a variety of music to cover everyone's taste, as well as representing the Lone Star State and Houston.

Free Press Summer Fest 2016
The 2-day Free Press Summer Fest began in 2009 as a showcase for local musicians, artist and such and as grown from 30,000 the first year to well over 100,000 attendees. However somewhere along the way the festival was sold, keeping the name, but going through various management companies. It is now operated by the same company that puts on the ACL festival in Austin. Which also seems to have adjusted the 2-day music lineup to cater more to the EDM/underage crowd. I heard several people remark about not having to stand in line for a beer as with previous years, since the majority of attendees were unable to partake.
