May 2, 2019  - Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band rolled into town on the Travelin’ Man Tour to kick off the start of the month of May’s Music Madness!  A visit that was also a make up for a cancelled show back in 2017 and while the drive over to The Woodlands Pavilion was pleasant and sunny, shortly after I my arrival the news started to spread slowly.  Then just in case you didn’t hear, the skies began to darken and if as on cue, everyone’s cell phones came up and yeah we were straight in the path of the ongoing dark red line of duck happiness!

February 22, 2019 - While I’ve been a fan of Reverend Horton heat for years, the first time I got to photograph the show was 2005.  The digital cameras did not have the low light capabilities they do now, so to say they least I didn’t come out with a lot of keepers!  Then I put in for them a couple years ago and just as I was pulling into the venue parking lot, I had a issue arise and had to miss the show.  I of course notified my contact at that venue and asked them to apologize for me.  So I was glad I got the opportunity again and they did not disappoint!

February 22, 2019 - (Quick note) So trying to catch up. Sorry for the delays!  Who knew not being 20 anymore and working a shift that you get up at 3:30 AM, which was when I was either just getting in or just leaving the club I worked at a few years back.  So on concert nights it gets close to a 22-hour day!  Couple hours sleep and then back to work, no the un-fun job.  Then add both shoulders deciding to all of a sudden quit shouldering and finally having to get the rear differential back under my 1993 Bronco and its March 14th and your trying to figure out what happened?

February 13, 2019 - So trying to adjust to a new “work” schedule, which requires a 3:30AM wake up!  And on Day #2 is the Sold Out Travis Scott Astroworld Tour at the Toyota Center!  So I held off going early to try and get some crowd images before the sun went down in favor of trying to catch a nap!  Recently been paying for the hard living and young person “I’m invincible” lately.  We made our was down to the B stage for the opening act and while standing on the barricade step to scope out the stage, I noticed two young ladies sitting on the floor in front of me leaning against it.  You can’t see their faces, but they’re talking and messing with their phones.

Disturbed at the Toyota Center

Photos & Words by Richard Roesler

January 28, 2019 - So I figured I had better get some images posted from Disturbed show at the Toyota Center before I start to receive the evil eye!  Sure my 2019 plan is to post up images with in 2 Days, excluding multiple back to back shows such as this past week and another a dayz later.  Yes I know excuses, excuses, even with the addition of the B stage, which moved us closer to the action, I'm finding I need about 100mm more lens to reach out for a clean shot of the drummers at TC.  However I will continue my sort as the day progresses, apparenty there is some football game on this evening, Puppy Bowl or something?

December 29, 2018  Augora Hills, Ca—-written by Gina Sigman

Alt rock fans packed into the elegant Canyon Club for an evening with the Gin Blossoms.  Lead singer Robin Wilson proved he can still croon 90’s style and then some, never missing a note on songs like Follow You Down.  Jesse Valenzuela was as impressive on guitar as he was delivering his sweetly familiar harmonies.  The rest of the band, consisting of Bill Leen, and “the Scotts”: Johnson and Hessel, added the essentials needed to complete the whole package.   The band from Tempe Arizona that began in the late 80’s has uh...to use an over-trite pun...blossomed into becoming an iconic marker of the Alt Rock movement of the 90’s and beyond.

November 24, 2018 - I got to head over to Revention Music Center for the second year in what I hope will become a Thanksgiving weekend tradition, covering the Hometown Furstenfeld Brothers and The Boys of Blue October!  If you have yet to spend Saturday night with a few thousand of you closet friends, you are missing out!  That being said the evening sells out so mark it on you calendar in August if you plan on attending the 2019 party?

November 9, 2018 - I’ve been a fan of Billy Gibbons, long before he was the Reverend Billy G! I think it would be impossible to have been born and raised in Houston on the soulful blues of ZZ Top’s First Albums “(Somebody Else Been) Shaking Your Tree”, “Neighbor, Neighbor” or “Back Door Love Affair” and not become an instant fan!

November 7, 2018 - I caught up, again, with the talent that is the Lovell sisters of Larkin Poe at the House of Blues.  I had crossed paths with these lovely ladies when they opened for Elvis Costello in 2016.  However the Houston traffic delayed my arrival and I only able to just enjoy their set.  But made a note to keep an eye out for the next visit!  This time Ms Rebecca and Megan where the headliners and the traffic animals did not impede my forward progress.

Ouctober 27, 2018 - Halloween weekend, o I got to catch my first show of Silenced Within, with the talented Sloan Robley of Luna Lunacy.  It seems she and SW lead guitarist Dave Robley actually started out in California, with a successful following and were on the verge of what the musical future had to offer?  When Dave was sidelined with a medical issue that would unfortunately put him and Silenced Within on hold for several years!

September 21, 2018 - I discovered Tyler Bryant in the 2009 Rock-U-Mentry, Rock Prophecies, a movie about Rock Photographer Robert Knight.  You may not know the name, but believe me you’ve seen his work!  In the movie he tells of how Stevie Ray Vaughan, in a somewhat foretelling of the future, tells Robert “If anything ever happens to me, you’ll know me when you see me”.  Robert came to discover Tyler, playing around his home in Honey Grove, Texas and believed the talented young man might just be blessed with a little bit of SRV!  Please don’t misunderstand this young man is talented and has worked at his skill. But when a photographer who’s met and photographed Stevie compares you to him that’s not too shabby!

September 14, 2018 - I have to thank all my teachers at Harvard, because had it not been for them I might have just passed over the story, yes of course I noticed the pretty girl with the killer legs in the front seat of the car & even the two guys behind her.  But had it not been for for those 4 years at Harvard, were those fine teachers helped me to learn to read letters, I might have missed the part that read "blues"!  which of course peaked my interest and allowed me to arrive at the Ally Venable, be it late as usual, party!

September 1, 2018 - Journey stopped by the Toyota Center making the rounds with Def Leppard, I had the pleasure of covering the boys a couple years ago at the Woodlands Pavilion and it was a great show.  This was my first arena coverage for them and it was pretty cool!  My biggest issue was when you shoot at the Toyota Center its from the sound boards or front of house, which I know, yet still managed to forget my stool to stand on which aids in getting over the heads of the fans between you and the band.

September 1, 2018 - Def Leppard made their way to Houston to rock the hometown crowd on the Pour Some Sugar On Me Tour.  With the weather outside reflecting the storm inside of guitars, drums and kicking Rock and Roll to what appeared to be a sold out crowd?  A safe bet, since there were no empty seats to be seen and there was a second show scheduled on the upcoming Labor Day Monday to properly bring the summer season (in other states, except Texas, still summer!) to a close!  As with so many other artist and bands it was great to see some second and possibly 3rd generation rockers in the crowd!

Jackie Bristow

July 14, 2018: Buellton, CA---Singer/songwriter Jackie Bristow was the headlining performer last night at the Standing Sun Winery. Singer/songwriter Paula Punch was the opener for the show.Paula’s set included her very own folk-style songs which have a thoughtful and reflective styling. Jackie was joined on stage by Santa Ynez’s very own Carole Ann Colone along with guitarist Mark Punch. Her style ranges from rock and blues to American folk. By the end of the evening, the trio had everyone migrating to the front of the stage for dancing and musical revelry. Jackie , Paula and Mark are all from Australia. Jackie currently lives in Tennessee where she is pursuing her music career.

July 7, 2018 Buellton, CA---Patrons of the Standing Sun Winery swayed and imbibed to a sundry assortment of sounds by Boom Forest, a band who hails from Wisconsin. Front man John Paul admits that they fit no particular genre . Their tunes tickle the soul and the intellect with songs like Silver Hair with its thoughtfully sensitive lyrics to the spiritually-twisted Holy Ghost. With a playful mix of man vs. machine harmonies and tight 3 instrument back-up, Boom Forest carves a deep notch in the stone tablet of unique and memorable bands. So, if you missed this intimate little pit stop last night, maybe you can catch them on the road. They are currently on a nation-wide tour, opening for The Black Crows promoting their latest CD, Post Knight Errant.---Words by Gina Sigman

August 25, 2018/September  - For those of you that may not know, I’m a Stirlingite!  A big, ugly, mustached, tattooed, Harley Shovelhead riding Stirlingite.  Although I discovered this talented young lady, by accident on a photography site, fortunately it was right before her first tour would bring her to Houston!  I wasn’t doing the AAMN thing yet, but had photographed some concert working for Bikernet.com and was able to get approved through her management that way.  And I am currently 5 for 5 on approvals for Ms Lindsey’s shows!  I’m in no way bragging, as there are better photographers than myself in Houston.

August 11, 2018 - Shinedown came to the Lone Star state crossing the USA with Like A Storm and Godsmack which is  an amazing show, as you would expect.  However one incident got me to thinking so I want to go a bit off topic, like I’m EVER on topic! the image of Brent shaking hands, he stopped and shook every photographers hand, 10 of us in the “Pit Monkey” enclosure.  That was a first for me, there are a lot of bands and artist that interact with the photographers, if not directly, like @cheaptrickrick and @jasonhook_5fdp who are guitar pick assassins, there was @zoltanbathory & @5fdpchriskael hamming it up for the camera.  Some artist acknowledge us with killer poses right in front of the camera, like @zakkwyldebls and @c_c_deville or like my hoping to go 5 for 5 Ms @lindseystirling who always makes eye contact or at least eye to lens contact.  I’m pretty sure Ms Lindsey is wondering how I keep getting in to her shows though!

August 11, 2018 - I do not ever check out an artist or bands music before a show if I’ve never heard of them, as I want that first live experience to be my weathervane of approval.  Some bands and artist are just better with the music that comes out of the studio!  Maybe they’re burnt out from too much touring, maybe they do not even like touring, but their record label said you gotta!  Or, Maybe, just Maybe, they just really love hearing themselves sing and wanted a gold record?

Imagine Dragonsat the Woodlands Pavilion

August 4, 2018 - Imagine Dragons made their way to the Dome City, entertaining fans on the sold out Evolve Tour.  Taking the stage and kicking off the show with Radioactive, I didn’t notice anything unusual primarily focusing on my Pit Monkey duties of staring through the viewfinder.  However upon the songs completion Dan Reynolds came out to the front of the stage and began to talk, that’s when you noticed it!  This young man was sick and had no voice, he addressed the crowd stating in their entire career as a band they had only cancelled one show and that was their first year.  He apologized, pondering with the crowd on what to do, as he knew he couldn’t give them the show they came to see?

August 4, 2018 - I had the privilege to photograph Imagine Dragons recently; being it was a Sunday show I arrived earlier that usual due to lees traffic across town, the show however was sold out!  I inquired as to who the opening act was, but the person I asked didn’t know much more that “ a 14 year old young lady”.  Interesting I thought, but got distracted and didn’t ponder on it anymore.  Upon being escorted out to the pit, I notice Grace on the drum and her full name on the back wall of the stage, which is laid out with a large area rug with a flower border and flowers going up the mic stand.   Hum Grace VanderWaal, still not registering, remember I don’t own a TV and there are just so many artist about these days.  You cant always stay informed, no matter how hard you might try.

June16, 2019, San Luis Obispo, CA—The nostalgic Fremont theater was the setting for an evening with 50’s/60’s folk group, the Kingston Trio.  The lovely and talented singer/songwriter, Olivia Reed  opened for the show, playing a 30 minute set with her  feathery vocals framing thoughtfully written lyrics.  Enter the Kingston Trio onto the stage, met by a round of applause to do what they do best: three-part harmonies backed up by banjo and guitar.  It was good old American folk and pop music with the feel of a family living room sing-along.   Although the original members are no longer with them, current members Tim Gorlangton, Mike Marvin and Josh Reynolds keep the family legacy going.   Josh is original member Nick Reynold’s son while Mike is Josh’s cousin and Tim is Mike’s lifelong friend.   On stand-up bass, was band’s trusty bassist, Paul Gabrielson. The band pulled out many of their numerous hits, prompting sing-alongs from the audience and plenty of toe tapping and hand clapping.  Among some their hit songs played were “Scotch and Soda”,  “Worried Man”, “This Land”,  “Where Have all the Flowers Gone”, and “Tom Dooley”.   The trio is currently touring across the USA.  Go see them at a theater near you!----Words by Gina Sigman

June 3, 2018 - I got to catch Cheap Trick at the Woodlands Pavilion and they circled the globe with Poison on the Nothin’ But A Good Time tour!  Taking the stage with 3 of the of the 4 original member’s Robin, Rick and Tom, still out there kicking ass! And it’s my understanding that although he no longer tour with the guys, drummer Bun E, Carlos is still involved with the Cheap Trick machine.  However taking his place on the drums for a few years now has been Daxx Nielsen, Rick’s son and touring this year is also Robin Zander Jr on rhythm guitar.  Is this possibly the start of Cheap Trick Version 2.0?

June 8. 2018 - The boys and lady of Pop Evil braved the "It's Only June" Texas Heat to kick off the festivities along with Cheap Trick and Poison on the Nothin' But A Good Time tour!  Although as photographers we were limited to our relative sides of the stage due to a stage thrust, it did allow for all the artist to engage the audience more.  It was enjoyable to catch PE's new drummer Ms Hayley Cramer doing her thing!   And although Leigh Kakaty didn’t really engage those of us pointing cameras at him, he did do his job, along with the rest of Pop Evil creating new fans!  On their last song, not only did Leigh use the thrust, he climbed down into the crowd, stopping to take pictures with the eager new fans, while continuing the song.  Heck he made it all the way out to the lawn, that shows the crowd you appreciate them being there!

May 08, 2018 - As I emerged from the underground parking behind the Revention Music Center, a line of Ghost fans wrapped entirely around the building greeted me.  Not a totally uncommon site for a music venue, however to say that this crowd was unique would be an understatement!  If you’ve ever read my ramblings on other artists and bands, then you know I do not claim to know a lot about every music genre.  Of course I had heard of Ghost and seen some killer images from their shows, but that was about the extent of it.  I like to experience the event as it unfolds in front of my camera and then as part of the crowd.

May 2, 2018 Solvang, CA—Music fans and patrons alike,  cuddled up under blankets and hoodies for an evening outdoors at the Solvang Festival Theater to enjoy a benefit concert featuring the music talents of Brandy Clark.  Brandy is both a singer and songwriter and showed her audience last night that she does both equally well.  Her credits include several Grammy and CMA nominations.  She has also forged her mark on a plethora of songsters including Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes, Sheryl Crow, Gretchen Wilson and Miranda Lambert.   Though a west coast girl from Washington state, Clark writes and sings like a country girl with the music style of stone-washed, love-jilted, hash-slingin’ good-hearted woman.  With  songs such as “Big Day in a Small Town” and “The Day She Got Divorced” she paints vivid images of such women and characters that are part of every day life.  Her voice is hot and smoky, with a cool and collected quality that pairs up with her songs like a good beer and a bowl of red peanuts.  The audience cheered persistently after her final song, bringing Clark back on stage for an encore, singing a lovely impromptu of Linda Ronstadt’s “Blue Bayou”. Proceeds from her concert will benefit the Solvang Festival Theater. ——by Gina Sigman

March20th-2018—-Carlene Carter, daughter of the late June Carter Cash and stepdaughter to the legendary Johnny Cash, gave a farewell performance for her fellow Santa Ynez neighbors at the Standing Sun Winery.  With seats filled and only a few feet of standing room between them, well-wishers and fans packed in to the rustic venue to hear her toe-tapping tunes and reminiscent stories of life growing up in the Carter-Cash family.   Her husband, actor Joe Breen, opened the show with the singing of the National Anthem and accompanied her on several songs.  Carlene is the grandmother of seven grandchildren who all live in the Nashville area and says she is moving to be close to them.   Throughout the concert, she showed off her musical prowess, demonstrating the famous “Carter Scratch” technique on the guitar and finished off the performance plucking the strings and bringin’ down the house with the Carter Family heirloom, “Wildwood Flower”.  After the show, she graciously chatted, hugged, signed autographs and posed for pictures with friends and fans.   Her latest cd, a tribute to her grandmother, Maybelle Carter and the entire Carter family legacy is available at www.carlenecarter.net and on Amazon.

March 20, 2018 - Lately I have had the pleasure of attending several shows for various artists on 10, 15 & 20 plus year tours and it got me wondering.  What makes these individuals do what they do?   The constant traveling, hotel rooms, cramped vans, bad food etc?

February 22, 2018 - Bri Bawell is a young lady on the move, having just received the 2018 Female Vocalist of the Year, (that’s 7 times I think?) and Music Video of The Year at the Texas Regional radio Music Awards it looks like 2018 has kicked the doors down for her!  I had recently tried to catch up with Bri Bagwell & The Banned a few weeks prior, but got that pesky flu, so I figured “well maybe later in the year then” as her tour took her out west.

January 19, 2018 - Houston, Texas - Like many around the world the closest I had ever been to Avatar Country proper, was popping one of the round photo reels into my View Master and taking in the wonder and amazement of Avatar, one button pushing rotation at a time.  But my life has been changed forever, as King and Court brought their “Metal Majesty” to Texas and the House of Blues in celebration of their 7th album, Avatar Country.

January 15, 2018 - Zakk Wylde and the boys of Black Label Society brought their heavy metal, kick ass, shred your face music to the House of Blues this past Monday night on the January 15th.  The reason I mention the date is two-fold, that morning started off with coffee in hand as always.  Making my way to the digital device sitting on the desk next to the cameras, that were patiently waiting, packed and ready to go!  Opening one of the news links I was hit with a headline that I certainly hoped was incorrect, that made reference to the passing of Cranberries lead singer Dolores O’Riodan.  Sadly with each new link I opened the fact was repeated, not the way to start the New Year.

November 27, 2017 - I have had the great pleasure of getting to attend & photograph Lindsey Stirling shows since her first tour, when it was just her and her 2 friends Gavi & Drew and it was an amazing show!  I’ve watched as it grew to a couple of back up dancers, to the full-fledged production of the most recent Warmer In The Winter tour.  For myself, it was a given, even back in 2012, that this young lady was going to far!  She is talented, she is beautiful, she is genuine and she is unique!

November 30, 2017, Pasadena, Ca.——Singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins, delivered a rousing 90 minute performance to a standing-room-only audience at The Rose, a soulfully elegant venue.  Loggins’ fans ate the honey as he prefaced the singing of Pooh’s Corner with an anecdote about its origin.  His songs started out mellow, progressing into a grinding acoustical of “This Is It”.  At this point, arms where beginning to sway and fans were singing along.   Aside from his talent, Loggins KNOWS how to draw his audience in! Even patrons noshing on fare from the restaurant put down their forks and swallowed their bites so they could participate in his sing-along with Celebrate Me Home. There were so many hits including those he teamed up with Michael McDonald for but there just wasn’t enough time in a 90 minute set to cover them all.  Nevertheless, nothing was lost.  The 69 year old singer’s  falsetto voice did not fail.   He belted out  Danger Zone, shredding those notes like a guy half his age!  One could feel the energy reach a crescendo as the time approached for the encore.  Stage lights flashed and twinkled.  Loggins zipped back on stage with the stealth of a tiger.  The audience cheered. Suddenly, it was 1984 all over again.  The opening riffs of Foot Loose brought the entire house to its feet, dancing and singing along.  Nimble in voice, body and spirit, Kenny Loggins brought it home or...shall we say, to Pasadena?  Although the concert is over, the story doesn’t end here.  Loggins has recently release a children’s book entitled, “Footloose”, available where books are sold.

November 5, 2017: Agoura Hills, CA.—-Fans of Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes, shed their Sunday night blues as the band took the Canyon club’s compact yet cozy stage, playing a nearly two hour set.  The group, who hails from the Jersey Shore is headed by John Lyon (aka Southside Johnny) who has long been considered the grandfather of the New Jersey sound.  Johnny has influenced and counter-influenced such great names as Springstein and Bon Jovi.  The band’s set included both covers and original songs including one from The Jukes’ latest CD, “Soultime”

October 15, 2017 - So I caught up with the boys of Stone Sour, you also had traveling with them The not-quite-right boys of Steel Panther.  However to balance out all that testosterone were the ladies of the Cherry Bombs, now I'll admit I thought they were a band.  I soon learned these ladies were dancer/aerialist, problem was the first two songs were in red lights and having previously worked with some talented ladies that were very skilled on pole routines I was gonna let the third song slide.  I Hate Red Lights, so much that I've started a campaign against them at #noredlightsfirstthreesongs, feel free to donate to this truly worthy cause!

September 29, 2017 - I have to admit what I know and or understand about EDM wouldn't fill the head of a pin.  I know many of the artists have some killer light shows and the young people that attend these gatherings have the ability to jump up and down for hours on end!  While waiting for Alison Wonderland I could barely tell the difference in a few of the songs HOB was playing.  Not knocking whom ever it was, more likely a lack of formal EDM musical training and a Long Gone ability to jump up and down!

August 18, 2017 Santa Ynez, Ca---Vivacious country star Chris Janson took the stage at the Chumash casino for an evening of good-time country rockin' and rapping.  The 31 y/o singer from Montana, nimbly skipped onto the stage performing "Redneck Life", getting audience members out of their chairs and dancing.  Seats emptied as fans filled the isles and pranced to the front of the stage to participate in Janson's party-like atmosphere.  Wearing a simple camo cap, jeans and a white t-shirt, Chris showed his fans what true showmanship was, giving it everything he's got.  A highlight of the show was when it came time for a little solo.  Janson brought his youngest son, Jesse onto the stage and coaxed the little guy to do some harmonica blowing.  The two went back and forth in a playful exchange, drawing applause and "aaawwws" from the audience.  Santa Ynez is Chris' 6th stop on his 12 city California tour, promoting his top-20 single hit "Fix a Drink."

August 4, 2017: Woodlands, Tx.---Alt-rock band, Incubus performed at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion.  The band, led by vocalist Brandon Boyd, assembled in 1991 when they began playing in high school.  From there, the nu-metal group from Calabasas, California played at such famous rock venues as The Whiskey A Go-Go and The Roxy.  It's no surprise that the band's plethora of hits including Drive, The Warmth, and Stellar, have produced a generation of "megalomaniacs" who love their music.  The band is currently on world tour, promoting their 8th album, entitled, Incubus 8.

July 15, 2017 Santa Maria, Ca.—Gammy award-winning country  pop vocalist, Leean Rimes, gave a generously exuberant performance at this year’s  Santa Barbara County Fair.  With general admission seating, fans were free to flock close to the stage to see and sway to the 34 year-old songbird  and get a n intimate close-up of her talent.  Rimes’ singing career started at age 13 following the release of Bill Mack’s Blue and from there, she rocketed to stardom with her rich, velvety vocals and effervescent stage presence.  Her latest album, Remnants, released last February, is available on iTunes and Amazon.

Along with  special guests Avegened Sevenfold and Volbeat and while it has been a long while since the boys in Metallica graced us with a visit.  Id say the absence was worth the wait, as would those in attendance from Houston and surrounding areas, like California would agree.  That right there were 2 young men across from me, in the “Snake Pit” that made the trek from the west coast!  For those that weren’t able to attend the snake pit was an area inside a looped walkway that came off the main stage and packed in the middle were a select group of concert goers, that I’m sure paid upwards of $20.00 easy to partake of the evening’s excitement just a bit closer then the rest.

May 5, 2017 Santa Ynez, CA——-Famed stoner comedy  duo Cheech Marin and  Tommy Chong performed at Chumash Casino.  Tommy’s blonde bombshell wife,  Shelby, opened for the show.  Cheech and Chong’s first album, Cheech and Chong, which came out in 1971, made it to #28 on the US charts. From there,  the cannabis-loving pair went on to produce several more albums and  appear in several movies through out the 70’s and 80’s.  The iconic hippy twosome are far from letting their career go “up in smoke” as they continue to make appearances and perform  across the US.

April 7, 2017—-Santa Ynez, Ca.

The newly remodeled Samala showroom became an elegant  backdrop for former

Doobie Brother, Michael McDonald and his distinguished entourage of musicians Friday night.   House lights dimmed, revealing a stage bathed in blue light.  A packed-in parcel of patrons cheered.   Enter stage right: a trim, bespectacled Michael who wasted no time settling on his piano bench to hammer out Keeps You Runnin.

Ok so it's time to come clean and lay down the facts!  First, I don't own a TV, second I rarely ever listen to the radio.  I know what you're thinking, "Well Richard how in the world do you decide on the musical acts you'd like to photograph?"   Sometimes I use a program I've developed, in conjunction with NASA, NSA and the SPCA that inputs, thousands of variables, such as the artist height in relationship to the stage height, types of strings he or she uses on their guitars, the last place they had chips and salsa and their reviews of said chips and salsa, etc. etc.

Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt-A-Whirl Band made their way downtown to hangout at Warehouse Live and have a party.  As usual I arrived way too early, eventually folks started showing up, hanging out and talking about all of Jimmie's shows they've seen and at what venue.  It was cool to see not only those of us who been rocking with Jimmie for a year or two there, but also those individuals that weren't around for the first broadcast of MTV.

Made my way down 1960 to Arcadia Live to catch Luna Lunacy take stage, I had missed them on earlier date so was looking forward to the evening.  While waiting for the band to take stage an acquaintance inquired if I had ever seen them?  Since I hadn't, he indicated I was in for a surprise that catches more then a few people off guard.

Lindsey Stirling Brave Enough Tour

Its difficult to relay all there was to see at Ms Lindsey Stirling’s Brave Enough Tour, I will confess that for the first time I really, really, really wanted to brake the 3 song set rule and just keep taking photograph’s!  Does anyone know how much it costs to book Lindsey and crew, as well as Revention Music Center?  Just asking for a friend, you know, in case I, he wins the lotto!

Caught up with Mr. Elvis Costello when he stopped in Houston's Revention Music Center on his current world tour, the Detour Tour.  Just curious if it's called the Detour Tour does that open up the journey for Elvis to bring his music and story telling to a venue, porch or park near you?   Who knows?  While he did share how this current tour got its moniker, I don't think I'll share it with you.   You'll just have to take a detour from from your daily routine to catch up with Elvis on his Detour Tour.  And spend the evening enjoying great music, story telling and just an all out fun time!

Sept 29, 2016: Santa Ynez, CA.:  The Chumash Casino theater became a virtual funk fest as Morris Day and the Time hit the stage for an evening of nostalgia, dancing and flirty fun.  The 58 year-old R&B whiz started out in the 80's playing in a band with the late Prince.  He later went on to play the antagonist to Prince in Purple Rain.  His energetic 90 minute show kept the audience on their feet and twice drew ladies and guys to the stage to dance and strutt: proof that age has nothing to do with "the time". He is best known for "The Bird" and "Jungle Love" which capped off the evenings' performance.

Free Press Summer Fest 2016

The 2-day Free Press Summer Fest began in 2009 as a showcase for local musicians, artist and such and as grown from 30,000 the first year to well over 100,000 attendees.  However somewhere along the way the festival was sold, keeping the name, but going through various management companies.  It is now operated by the same company that puts on the ACL festival in Austin.  Which also seems to have adjusted the 2-day music lineup to cater more to the EDM/underage crowd.  I heard several people remark about not having to stand in line for a beer as with previous years, since the majority of attendees were unable to partake.

California country trio, Truxton Mile performed for an enthusiastic crowd at Santa Maria Elks Rodeo, June 4th.  The band who hails from Bakersfield, is comprised of  Ryan Coulter on lead vocals, Alec Olivieri on Lead/rhythm guitar and piano, and Taylor Unrha on lead guitar and banjo.  Sunny skies, a balmy breeze and the smell of cotton candy and barbecue provided the perfect setting for the band’s  rousing and energetic performance.  After playing, the guys stuck around to talk to their fans and promote their current musical endeavor. Their latest single, “Lucked into You”, is available on iTunes.

Mancuso Harley Davidson decided to celebrate its 33rd year in business by throwing a big Texas bash! This included a bikini bike wash, several food and adult beverage vendors, MC related things of course and the first annual Battle of the Bands! With a grand grize of a $5000 for multiple shows at Mancuso HD. There was a variety of music for just about every taste, so while you may not have liked every group, you were sure to walk away with a new group to start enjoying.

April 21, 2016 Santa Ynez, CA---Fans attending Chumash Casino were treated to some funk and soul as the Family Stone took the stage, playing memorable hits such as "Everyday People" and "I Wanna Take You Higher."  Later on, "Dance to The Music" brought fans to their feet as they rushed to the stage for an all-out boogie.  Although the band's founding members, Sly Stone and the late Cynthia Robinson are no longer performing with them, the spirit of their music lives on through Sly's daughter, Phunne and the other band members : Jerry Marin (sax), Blaise Sison (bass), Nate Wingfield (lead guitar), ALex Davis (lead vocals and keyboard), and one of the top 100 greatest drummers, Greg Errico.  The band who hails from San Francisco, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

April 10, 2016, Nipomo, CA---If there's anything Salvador Santana knows it's that the world has a vast expanse of music genres and he has been exposed to them all, as evidenced by his music. His performance at Rancho Nipomo BBQ Cantina had everyone dancing to the latin beat as well as reggae, disco, some club rap and even some thoughtful classical licks thrown in.  Being the son of guitar hero Carlos Santana, has elevated him in some sense; giving him a name to stand on but it is clear he has carved out his own path in the music world.   The 33 year-old musician/composer won a Grammy in 2000 for co-writing  "El Farol", which appeared on the 1999 album, Supernatural.  After attending Cal Arts college, he has released 3 CD's  including Keyboard City (2010), Rise Up (2013) and last year's CD Fantasy Reality. Salvador remains humble inspite of his success; not boasting of his music royalty lineage or education. For more on what Salvador is doing, check out his website at salvadorsantana.com

March 28 Santa Barbara CA----We don't know about you but we are LUKE HOT for the Struts!  That is, hot for front guy lead singer, Luke Spiller who took the stage in Jacksonesque spangles and skinny jeans; drawing rave reaction from the crowd.  Lead guitarist Adam Slack (who is no slacker himself), bassist Jed "the head" Elliot,  and drummer Gethin Davies comprise the British band which has been slammin' out tunes since 2010.  Spiller's flashy, classic rock style , vivacious spirit and croaky vibrato vocals can be traced back to his childhood, growing up in a Victorian-like town and listening to Queen and Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson and Led Zeppelin.  Spiller refers to that type of Queen music sound as "Victorian Rock-n-Roll".  Whatever he or anyone else likes to call it, the combination of romantic angst and wailing harmonic guitar sounds with heavy background drums, holds the silver key to many fans' hearts.  If they'd forgotten the words or had no queue monitor, the fans would have been there to help them out. Songs such as the hit, "Kiss This", had fans singing every word in detail.  As Spiller stepped off stage during one of his songs and walked the narrow phone-lit path the crowd made for him, he almost appeared angelic as if walking on water instead of the concrete floor it was.  He didn't disappoint the fans nor did they him as they respectfully allowed him to walk among them without touching a hair of his clothing.  The show was an anomaly of sorts, being at such a small venue but the effects were surreal. The Velvet Jones, which only holds about 300 people, packed them in like sardines for the sold-out Monday night show.  The Struts are no strangers to big crowds.  In 2014, they opened for the Rolling Stone's show in Paris, playing for 80,000 screaming fans.  Since then, the band has relocated to Los Angeles and is out touring the US this spring and summer promoting their latest album, Everybody Wants.

March 24th Santa Ynez, CA---There was no shortage of hair or the sounds of grinding, screeching metal guitar strings at the Chumash Casino Theater as Tesla performed their act for a nearly sold-out crowd.  The band who hails from Sacramento, California has been in existance since 1982, and is best known for their anthem-rock ballad, "Love Song".  Lead vocalist/front man, Jeff Keith and his steely entourage entertained with the youthful energy of a band in their 20's; executing classic rock star choreography while belting out screaming vocals that fans of this genre have come to expect.  The band is plans to tour this summer with REO Speedwagon and Def Leppard.

March 15th, 2016: To the naked eye, Peter Kenneth Frampton could be described as a modest man who might be nothing more than the object of a social glance in a crowded room.  However, when the lights  went dim at the cathedral-like Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the Sea  this evening, he emerged the master of the acoustic guitar, playing before an adoring audience who were just as captivated as they were 40 years ago.  40 years——has it really been 40 years?  Mr. Frampton did not mention but , January marked 40 years since the release of the iconic  eight -track wonder of the world, Frampton Comes Alive.   A lot of water under the bridge since that time  but Frampton did not drown in it as many rocks stars who reached his height of fame have done.  No.  He picked up his guitar strings and moved on,  winning a Grammy in 2006 for his instrumental work Fingerprints. The British son of an art teacher went on making sweet music and even composed, “Hummingbird In a Box,” a delicate song written for the Cincinnati Ballet.   Frampton and his son Julian, who opened for him,  are winding up their  Raw Acoustic Tour.  What’s next for the 65 year-old legend?  What else?  A summer tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd!

February 19th, 2016---Fans at the Maverick in Santa Ynez, CA. got a real taste of deep California folk as the playfully-talented Nathan Mceuen took the stage.  The lovely and equally-talented Natalie Gelman from NYC, opened for him and joined in on a few of his tunes along with bus driver, Fred.  Natalie's honeyed vocals and perky yet pensive lyrics kept her audience smiling and singing along. She is currently touring California and the US. She is also working on a new album.  Nathan is the prodigous offspring of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member John Mceuen.  You don't need this piece of writing to find out about Nathan and discover the many jaw-dropping tales from his childhood!  Check our On-the-Bus with Nathan Mceuen video on our home page as well as our video section. I headed over to the newly renovated Dosey Doe to check out Mickey Gilley, now with the stage change there are no corner support posts blocking the view.  It's hard to believe but being a born-and-raised Houston boy, this was my first time to see him live!  Sure, I've been to Gilley's a time or two, but it was during the the Gilley Mania years and Mickey was out filming tv shows and movies and such!  One night, my buddy and I even went to the yuppie bar that was in Urban Cowboy located in the Galleria.  Once they told us the price of a beer, we headed on out to Pasadena!

BF34 kicked off with the band PVRIS, pronounced Paris (legal issue I believe) on the side stage. Based out of Lowell, Mass and fronted by Lynn Gunnulfsen had to have been my favorite act of the show! Not taking anything from any of the others that came to rock our city, I just liked them! So much, that I downloaded several songs that evening. Ms. Lynn's band mates include Alex Babinski on guitar and Brian MacDonald on bass.

I made my way through the dark, dusty back roads of north Houston with one destination in mind, BFE! You see BFE RockClub was hosting Ladies Night, however this was not your typical ladies-get-in-free and such type of ladies night. No.  This Ladies Night was for the Queen of The Night Show, featuring 3 bands! So can you guess what these 3 bands all had in common? That's right bucky, they are all fronted by ladies!  The final act of the night was Worhol.

Five time Grammy nominee Ottmar Liebert and his flamenco nouveau ensemble Luna Negra played a packed house Friday night at the House of Blues Houston. Fans were treated to amazing solos by cellist Jon Gagan, percussionist Chris Steele, and of course guitar virtuoso Ottmar Liebert. Their melodic yet funky beats kept the crowd on their feet with favorites like "Barcelona Nights" and "Samba Pa Ti." They ended their set with a beautiful cover of Bob Marley's "Waiting in Vain" and received a standing ovation.Ottmar Liebert writing piece.

August 20th, 2015---Fans flocked to the Chumash Casino to hear an "old fashion love song" or two and rock to all of their nostalgic favorites they have come to love from 60's American rock band, Three Dog Night.  The years have been good to the band who, for the past 4 decades, continue to bring joy to audiences with an aggressive touring schedule even a 20-something indie band would find hard to follow.  Original members, Danny Hutton and Cory Wells blend beautiful harmonies and exude an energy on stage that is a timeless, class act.  With the passing of 18 year veteran keyboardist, Jimmy Greenspoon, Eddie Riesner stepped in to fill the empty chair.  Eddie carries on in the tradition of the band, with homogenous vocal harmonies and keyboard solos: in keeping with the band's original sound.  Guitarist Michael Allsup, bassist: Paul Kingery and drummer Pat Bautz complete the band and put the package together the is still THREE DOG NIGHT.  The evening was a mixture of the old an new.  The band did not disappoint fans: fanning out their set list with am radio favorites including, "One", "Mama Told Me Not to Come", "Shambala". "Black and White," and...well, just go see them.  Their lastest works, "Heart of the Blues", a classic blues jam, leaving a thin stream of smoke in the air  and "Prayer for the Children"; a thoughtful accapella ballad, were well-received and had fans coming forward to the stage, cheering.  After a brief exit off the stage, the band was cheered back on for the finally, giving fans what they wanted, "Joy to the World".  It's a timeless song who's words are colorful and happy; something we all need in our lives.  We needed it then and we still need it now.   Three Dog Night continues their tour across the US.  Check out their new songs, "Heart of the Blues" and "Prayer for the Children" available on Amazon.
